Among the rolling Tuscan hills, surrounded by manicured vineyards and a surreal atmosphere between fantasy and dream, we find Montalcino. This wonderful medieval village, whose historic center has remained almost intact over the centuries, is one of the most beautiful and recommended destinations in Tuscany. There are many tourist attractions in this village, ideal both for a holiday with friends and for a romantic couple’s weekend.
Among the religious architectures not to be missed is the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture and visited every year by tourists from all over the world for its extraordinary beauty and for the sense of spirituality that it manages to emanate. . At the center of the ancient village is the Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Savior and, near the Fortress, the Church of Sant’Agostino, with simple Romanesque lines.
Of great interest is the Fortress, built in 1361 in the highest point of the city by the Sienese architects Mino Foresi and Domenico di Feo and which today incorporates some of the pre-existing structures including the keep of Santo Martini, the tower of San Giovanni and an ancient basilica. which now serves as the castle chapel. From here you can then admire a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside full of vineyards and the wonderful Val d’Orcia.
If you decide to spend a holiday in Montalcino, however, do not forget to taste the famous Brunello, a wine known all over the world for its full and round taste to be combined with the many local gastronomy products that will make your stay a real your Tuscan dream!
