Montalcino is a pleasant town in the province of Siena, nestled in the rolling Tuscan hills, an area rich in culture, history, art and … wine!
Montalcino is in fact the home of one of the most loved Tuscan reds in Italy and in the world: Brunello. With a beautiful garnet red color and a persistent and intense aroma, Brunello di Montalcino is a wine to be enjoyed even when aged, as it improves with the passage of time. It is well suited to rich dishes, pasta or meat including game, but it is also drunk well in the company of a good aged cheese and typical Tuscan cold cuts. Finally, for true connoisseurs, Brunello is a good meditation wine that will take you to a world of its own, rich and delicate, reminiscent of that particular land from which it was born.
Its history begins in the mid-seventeenth century when the chemist and pharmacist Clemente Santi, making a selection of the Sangiovese grape, produces it for the first time. From here begins a series of experiments to select the best wine for aging and, with the passage of time, this wine initially known by a small circle of connoisseurs, becomes a legend making itself loved by all the best wine lovers and becoming one of the best wines in the world.
Today Brunello di Montalcino has obtained the DOCG and its production area is limited to that of the municipality of Montalcino, a territory that is around only 24,000 hectares but which can offer various characteristics depending on those that characterize the production land. .
Yet Montalcino is not only wine but a town to be admired in all its beauty, whose historic center has remained almost intact since 1500. Of particular interest is the Rocca built in 1361 for the passage of the city under the dominion of Siena. In addition to its architectural beauty, from its ramparts you can enjoy the landscape that surrounds Montalcino, from the well-ordered and extremely well-kept vineyards to the Crete Senesi, with a panorama that extends over the entire Val d’Orcia to Monte Amiata and the Maremma.
